For the academic year 2025–2026, we have an exciting range of thesis proposals that span multiple domains:

  • Proposals by Lennert Bontinck (PhD - Time Series Team of SUMO)
    • Lennert's proposals focus on the use of Deep Learning on ECG signals. From improving patient healthcare with novel Deep Learning models that can predict future disease to augmenting ECG data for more robust training, Lennert's proposals are bound to give you the AI 4 Healthcare challenge you seek.

  • Proposals by Yens Lindemans (PhD - Electrical Engineering Team of SUMO)
    • Classical algorithms for characterizing linear time-invariant (LTI) systems in time/frequency domains remain vital for engineering—yet are often bottlenecked by computational complexity. While modern AI-driven models leverage big data to bypass these limits, they risk discarding physics-based insight. At SUMO, we pioneer a hybrid framework: merging physics principles with machine learning to create efficient, reliable solutions for LTI challenges.
